All Things Opiate

1
It’s been a while
Things you showed me
Things I otherwise wouldn’t have seen

You left me drained
My digestive tract, still recovering

The euphoria, the rush
I’m willing to give a miss
Our meeting again
I’m going to let pass

Two years now
Many more to go

2
One slip
One single slip
Standing again
Clean again
Not quite square one
Not quite clean

Time
You wicked thing
Mind
Your evil tricks
Push has come to shove
Shove, I shall

3
Upright again
I hope not to see you again
But I think I shall
How our paths intertwine

How this shall unfold
We’ll have to wait and see
The mind and time
Their evil ways

4
A habit
Not being habitual any more
Control is sought
One always has to control the other
There is no polarity here
For now
The upper hand is mine
Heave-ho

Oh! Excuse me
I have to use the john

5
The pendulum continues to swing
More one way than the other
A moment has become a few
Revisiting history becomes obligatory
It’s mind time

Do I need the aches and the cramps?
Go through sleepless nights?
Answers I know so well
Yet I slip

6
Exercised restraint
Will overcame desire
I do see myself slipping
In the time to come

No pangs of yearning
Passing fancies
Is this how it should be?
More time, perhaps

7
You should know you have a problem
When for the third day in a row
You want to score

The solution should be as simple as
Not using for the next month
Can it really be that simple?

8
Nay, not so easy
Didn’t think so
Work in progress
Progression unclear
A battle of the vexes
Aaaah!

9
New realization dawns
A combination of the will
An absence of the regular source
Can be quite effectual
Or so is the case
In my case
For now

10
A different take
Old paths, to forsake
Goodbye, the old ritual
The habit, hardly habitual

Slow and steady
Apparently does it
Hallelujah
